Today is FRIDAY!!!! So that means that it is time for another 52 Fridays post.
Where to begin? Or shy away from beginning?

This past week on Tuesday was the one year anniversary of the Joplin tornado. To commemorate it, the girls and I decided to participate in the Walk of Unity that was held. I am still not totally sure what I was thinking. I had been doing some Walk at Home with Leslie Sansone and figured I was up for the challenge.

I was sadly mistaken.

Well, partly mistaken…

You see, when I do my walking at home, I’m in my living room. My nice, flat living room. And when I walk at home, I’m not toting about 80 pounds of children behind me in a heavy wagon either. It was fairly cool in the house when we got ready and since the day before had been pretty chilly, we dressed in jeans and t-shirts for the walk. Totally forgetting that there is still no shade at all on the tornado route. The sun was shining beautifully straight down on us.

Then the girls decided before we even got to leave Wal-Mart’s parking lot that they were tired and wanted to go home. We had gotten a ride from a friend over and she had already gone back home so we were stuck following through.
The girls rode a lot in their wagon (a great off road/yard work wagon, but I can’t recommend it for long walks or great distances) and were very cute. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of them in it, but I was stopped by people thinking the girls were cute and wanting pictures themselves. I should have asked for someone to email me one now that I think on it. The girls waved the American flags they were given and smiled and waved to lots of people. We met up with some friends, made it to nearly the half-way point and walked to our friends’ home to watch the events at the park on television. We figured we would get to see more that way and we were right. By the time we had made it back to their house, we had walked nearly the whole amount of the planned route. On Wednesday, my legs throbbed and I was extremely stiff. It wouldn’t have been so bad if I wasn’t pulling the girls behind me and had real walking shoes. I had a pair of cheap tennis shoes on that were more of a minimalist design. I guess I’m getting old and should consider buying myself a good pair of tennis shoes with more padding or something.

The girls finished their history this week for school. All that is left is science and we don’t have a lot of that left and should be done before we leave for TPA next week. I’ve been letting them play outside since the weather has gotten so nice, and before it gets unbearably hot (which is happening this weekend from the look of it).
In the housekeeping department, I’ve at least kept the kitchen decent. We’ve been outside playing and working in the garden instead of spending time indoors. I am needing to deep clean the master bedroom and the bathroom this weekend.

Food wise, I’ve been doing decent. I’m purposefully not eating as much as I used to and trying to eat way more veggies. I need to go and get some more fresh produce actually. Though I don’t want to over buy as we’ll be gone for TPA for four days and I hate wasting money on food if it isn’t going to be eaten.

I really need to start in on a good Bible reading plan. I just got a book to review in the mail about how reading the Bible through in a year can change you. I hope there is a good plan to follow in it. I’ve printed off the Bible in 90 Days plan that I’m thinking of attempting again. The only thing is I prefer my NASB Chronological Bible over the traditionally laid out ones and I can’t find a B90 plan for that. Have you seen one?

Well, I have chores to get done so I need to get off the computer and get to work. Next week may or may not have a 52 Fridays post as I will be live blogging at the TPA Convention. Which will include all of next week prepping laundry, packing and everything that goes along with being gone for a few days.

Tonight my husband went to judo practice. The girls and I stayed home and made this cross between a pie and a cobbler. I had a bag of frozen sweet cherries and a bag of blackberries which I combined with sugar. While the Bugs and the Beans were “stiring” it (read that sampling of the frozen fruit…) I mixed together a box of pie crust (yes, I used a box mix for my pie crusts. I have never been able to get a good, tasty result from home made. Even with my mother, the queen of pie crusts, supervising every move I made with it. If you can help me with home made, please do so!). I put half the crust in the bottom of my favorite 8×8 pan, the berries and and then sprinkled the rest of the pie crust on top like a crumbled topping. Before popping it into the oven, I sprinkled more sugar on top.  It sure looks yummy!

We had a pretty good day today!  The neighbors across the street were holding a garage sale and they had what appeared to be a pretty nice bookshelf unit out so I had to go and investigate.  Turns out, it was more of a free standing cabinet with doors on it that lock!  I was so excited, even though the doors were not on it and they need a bit of work to get them back on.  While over there, I was able to also score three pairs of kid shoes, a shirt for each of the girls, a set of fleece pajamas and a pair of pink pants for Bugs a pair of cute black sandals for me (finally, haven’t owned a pair in two years since I broke my last ones) and for a mere dollar, a Leap Frog Leap Pad!  Then, we decided to take Daddy to work this afternoon and stopped at another garage sale where I got two brand new outfits, a few more shirts, two more pairs of kid shoes and a purse.  I spent under fifteen dollars today.  I can’t wait to get that cabinet next to my dryer.  I was wanting to build a pantry there anyway to sort of divide my kitchen from my laundry area.  This will work until we can do the building.  That cabinet will house all my larger kitchen appliances that I don’t use daily and homeschool supplies.  Yes, I need to keep things like markers, paint, glue and crayons locked up and out of reach.  The children love that stuff.  In fact, we have a horrible time with losing crayons.  I have found several in my laundry.  Of course, after it had been through the dryer (thankfully it wasn’t anything good, just skivvies and socks each time).

Then, when we went to go get Daddy from work today, it started to rain when a cold front came through.  You have no idea how nice that is.  We have been under extreme heat warnings for what feels like an eternity now this summer.  I have the windows open and the attic fan running and it is so nice.  It wasn’t nice driving in the rain, especially in the dark, but I survived.

Tomorrow is church.  Then it is massive family clean the house day so I can spend the first of next week organizing and packing for a trip to Grandma’s.  The girls are excited.  I’m looking forward to a week away from home.  And I need to get at least one book review written too by then.  May as well do it tonight. I have to finish yet another one and I’m caught up with that at least and can then dive into some books that I want to read that I’m not reviewing.  I can’t wait..

Wow, the heat index for the day finally lowered. Granted, we are still at 100 and it is going on seven in the evening, but it is better than earlier was.  The kids are playing in the sandbox for a bit and are having fun.

We installed the WordPress app on my phone and this thing is great!  I love it!  It is so easy to type and post in this!  Kind of wondering why I didn’t switch over sooner, but don’t tell Hubbs!  He had been trying to get me to move for months now!

We had a blast visiting Grandma this weekend. We got most of her chore list knocked down so when we are out there on our “vacation” in a week and a half, we can just relax and rest. It has been an absolutely insane, crazy, busy summer, and the kids aren’t that old yet!  If it keeps getting busier, I don’t know what I’m going to do!

I shouldn’t be playing around with the WordPress app.  I’ve got a million things to do.  Like finish the laundry it was too hot to dry earlier (I know, I need to get a clothesline), put up the left overs from dinner now that they are cool enough to handle, I have two books that I need to read and review, along with writing my practice review for the Crew yet. Along with finishing unpacking, planning what to take for our next trip and I need to get planning for our school year through Christmas break yet. I know, sounds like a lot, but it really isn’t. Besides, as a friend of mine likes to ask, “How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.”

So, since I know a lot of others are extremely busy and are feeling overwhelmed, let’s all just take a big breath, let it out slowly and dig into our elephants.
